Known as the “American Riveria,” Santa Barbara is a beautiful city located in the central coast of California, situated between the Pacific Ocean and the high-rising Santa Ynez Mountains. The Chumash Indians were the first to settle the city, around 13,000 years ago. In the second half of the 18th century, Spanish explorers and priests settled and colonized Santa Barbara, building the cities famous mission in 1786.
Nowadays the mission is one of Santa Barbara’s greatest tourist attractions along with the County Courthouse, the Presidio of Santa Barbara, and the Santa Barbara Art Museum. The city’s scenic backdrop and beaches are also host to many events through out the year including the Santa Barbara film festival, AVP Pro Volleyball Tournament, and West Beach Music and Arts Festival. Every August, Santa Barbara hosts the famous “Fiesta” festival, were the city throws various parades.
Currently Santa Barbara has a population of around 90,000 people. The city is also well known for its prestigious education institutions like Santa Barbara City College and University of California Santa Barbara, which is located right outside of Santa Barbara in Goleta. The city has its own airport and is conveniently located on the U.S. 101, north of L.A. and south of San Francisco.
