Thoreau said it best: goals are motivational, and it’s always exciting to complete one. But it’s not the medal at the end of the race that we really strive for–it’s the personal journey that medal represents.
Falling behind can often feel like an inescapable fate, especially because losing momentum has an ironically speedy snowball effect. The best way to stop this process is to acknowledge it. Life has a way of distracting us all, and there’s no reason to be ashamed of it; embarrassment only leads to denial, which fuels our desire to hit snooze again, skip another workout or sneak in a few more cookies. If you’re feeling behind, instead of avoiding your latest mishap, look it in the face, accept it, hug it goodbye, and overcome it. Although it may be small, this is a mighty step in the right direction. We must let go of our past mistakes in order to actively progress towards the future we want.

Some days are tough, while others are easy. Make every morning the best! Perhaps eat a better breakfast, take a morning walk, take a shower in the morning, or stop at a coffee shop before work.
Let me guess, every December you sit down and ask yourself: what could I do differently this upcoming year to make this one even better than the last? So your list probably looks a little something like this: eat healthier, exercise more, focus on relationships with family members, spend more time outside, be more adventurous, spend less time on social media, and wake up early to get your day going.
